A girl who is believed to be a
malfetto. An abomination. A black sheep of the family. That is Adelina
Amouteru. The girl who, after a deadly illness swept through her, was left with
strange markings. Left with a jagged scar where her left eye once was. But
she’s not alone, there are other who survived the disease. The people who are
believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, they have come to be called the
Young Elites. And those are the people she’s supposed to work with.
It’s a book full of darkness, and
power and its chock full of mystery. That’s what keeps you turning the pages. It’s
so dark. I feel like…I never know what direction this story is going to take
and it’s frustrating and exhilarating. I honestly have such a hard time
figuring out who is going to do what, and what I want people to do.
This book is so incredibly
different from her Legend trilogy but that is what makes it so good. You still
have the great writing and storytelling and the unique “voice” that is Marie
Lu, but it in an entirely new story, an entirely new world. I think sometimes it’s
difficult for an author to venture outside the way they’ve written, but Marie
Lu proves in The Young Elites that not only can she write fantastic dystopian
but she writes dark, rich fantasy as well.
The Young Elites is a dark tale
of a female Darth Vader in the making, Adelina. Marie Lu weaves a tight plot
with some twists that will have the readers turning pages while sympathizing
for Adelina inspite of the role she will grow into. An entertaining read that
I’ve experienced that would wow the YA crowd and gain the author newer fans
